DDC Web Optimizer Case Study
Using Dealer.com’s optimization tool, I identified opportunities to improve BMW of Columbia’s website functionality and implemented strategic updates to enhance the user experience.
Dealer.com’s backend includes built-in performance diagnostics, so I reviewed the recommendations to identify opportunities to optimize and clean up the website.
The optimizer highlighted site performance metrics and recommendations, including a medium-impact opportunity to resize four images exceeding the recommended 0.1 MB file size.
After identifying the optimization opportunities, I obtained approval for the changes. I prioritized reducing oversized image files, as large images can slow page load times, negatively impact SEO, create a poorer user experience, and increase the likelihood of visitors leaving the site before exploring inventory.
I optimized four oversized images by reducing their file sizes while maintaining quality:
138.6 KB to 68.9 KB (50% reduction)
166.7 KB to 87.6 KB (47% reduction)
168.9 KB to 94.9 KB (44% reduction)
227.1 KB to 98.3 KB (57% reduction)
These optimizations helped improve page performance while preserving the visual experience.
After implementing the image optimizations, I observed a modest improvement in Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), which decreased from 2.041 seconds to 1.974 seconds, indicating a faster page load experience for users.
The results showed that image optimization can positively impact site speed and overall site health. While larger technical updates may drive greater improvements, reducing image file sizes is a simple, high-impact way to support stronger Core Web Vitals and improve the shopper experience.
